Blackburn Home Furnishings is a family-owned and operated business for over 65 years and three generations. The business began with Melvin L and Virginia Blackburn in the front of their home selling sweepers door-to-door. In later years the Blackburn family expanded their offerings by selling appliances and then later the first color television in southeast Ohio.
In the mid 1970s, Melvin J Blackburn and wife Nickie purchased the company from his parents. Mel and Nickie continued to grow the business by adding furnishings in the in 1985 and later built a grand showroom with spans the length of a football field. The store's exterior trademark are its twenty-eight windows that adorn the Route 33 corridor filled with beautiful furnishings and exceptional products.
Today, Nickie Blackburn owns the business and operates it with her daughter Debra Blackburn and son-in-law Tom Schmitz. The Blackburn Family is highly philanthropic and is involved in several community projects in the surrounding region.
