Common Misconceptions about Leather

“Leather is cold/hot.”

Although this statement may seem to be true, it isn’t, Leather stays mostly at the temperature of it‘s environment. Why it may feel cold or hot is due partly to the difference in your own personal body temperature. Within moments the temperature of leather will adjust to that of your own.

“What if I accidentally sit down with a screw driver in my pocket?”

However unlikely for this particular thing to happen, we hear it all the time. Rest assured though, leather is almost 5 times more durable than most fabrics. Take the leather fabric challenge: try driving a screw driver through a leather sample and then through a piece of fabric, the leather sample will stand the test.

“I can’t have leather because I have pets.”

This is definitely NOT true! What you must be careful about is selecting the correct leather for your needs. Like fabric, not all leathers are the same in strength and durability. You must consult a qualified leather associate that can explain to you the different types of leathers that are available to you and what to expect from each of those. And make sure you understand what they are telling you—it doesn't have to be foreign language. Full grain, top grain, and semi-aniline might not mean anything to you, so ask to have it explained in a manner that comes from your own perspective.

“My cat will attack leather.”

The answer to that is simple, ”why?’’ An animal doesn't recognize leather as being from a cow. What you may witness is that a cat's natural tendency to scratch can cause damage if you have not selected the correct leather for your home.
